Prof. Maria Pia Fanti is a Full Professor of System and Control Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy, and Chair of the Laboratory of Automation and Control. She received her Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa in 1983 and has been with the Polytechnic University of Bari since then. She is an IEEE Fellow and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association. Her research interests include discrete event systems, Petri nets, intelligent transportation, logistics and manufacturing systems, fault detection, and cybersecurity. She has published more than 400 scientific papers, including over 140 journal articles, as well as book chapters and textbooks. She has also held several academic and leadership positions and has coordinated numerous national and European research projects, including a Horizon Europe project involving 21 partners from 11 European countries.
